Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Diving in the Gulf of Mexico

What will conditions be like when I am there?

Please see our 'conditions' page for monthly averages on water and air temps as well as links to current local weather and NOAA buoy reports.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Do NOT forget your Certification Card! This includes your EANx c-card if you plan to dive with Nitrox. Personal gear is rentable (mask, snorkel, fins, booties) but we strongly encourage these items be provided by the diver for the best fit and, consequently, the best diving experience.

You will need a visual safety signaling device ("safety sausage") and an audible device (appropriate type of whistle or other loud surface device).

We strongly recommend sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, a towel, and, in cool or windy weather, a fleece or windbreaker.

No refunds will be given because of insufficient planning on the part of the diver. A 'Save-a-Dive' kit is strongly recommended.

What is included in the price of the trip?

We will provide tanks of compressed AIR (typically we offer 2 tank dive trips unless otherwise indicated) and weights/belts at no charge. Our lead is the hard type and we have 'stringer' type belts. If you prefer the softer lead shot and pocket style belts, you are welcome to bring those items. We also provide fresh water for drinking.

Can I rent major gear? How much will it cost?

We do offer rentals on BCDs, regulator sets, computers and wetsuits if reserved in advance. These items will not be available unless reserved at least 24 hours before your trip, and there is no guarantee of availability unless your reservation has been confirmed by us in writing. No refunds will be given because of insufficient planning on the part of the diver. Please see our 'rental' gear page for a list of current prices on renting major gear.

Is Nitrox available? How much will it cost?

Yes, we can provide Nitrox if reserved at least 24 hours in advance. Please see our 'rental' gear page for a list of current prices on Nitrox mixes. We will need to see proof of your EANx certification before supplying you with Nitrox.
